Semi retired Attorney None Married Five At least eleven known ( I have 4 sons) Two After graduation I went to K.U. and received a Bachelor's degree . I did not want to become an attorney like my father and grandfather, so I joined the Marine Corps and was commissioned a Lieutenant in October 1966. During active service I spent from September, 1967 to January 1968 in Guantanimo Bay and returned to Camp Lejeune North Carolina with orders to Vietnam. (Strangely, it did not rain the whole time I was in Guantanimo even though that was supposed to be their rainy season.) The nights were warm and the water was blue, so Guantanimo was O.K. From the summer of 1968 to 1969 I was assigned command of 163 Marines with the 3rd Marine Division in Northern I Corps Vietnam. That was not as serene as Cuba but provided prospective on the value of life and the cost of its loss. When I returned from Vietnam I recall a sense of amazement at the variety of colors. Why had I not noticed those many colors before? I spent some time as a federal employee in Dallas and Houston from 1969 to 1976 and resigned to attend Washburn Law School starting the Fall of 1976. ( I guess that was inevitable, wasn't it? ) The first marriage ended in a divorce November 1983. There were four children of that marriage, the oldest of whom is 45 and the youngest of whom is 30. My second marriage is excellent and in retrospect I wish I had met Marilyn, with whom I will have been married 28 years this October, sooner. We have one son , John, who designs and programs software for communications equipment in St. Louis. I still practice some law but have begun to wind down and plan to stop entirely within the next two years. (I just read the above stuff and can see that it isn't as interesting or noteworthy as some of the other biographical entries, but is accurate.) I never found work which was personally fulfilling , but am very fortunate in that both my time in the Marine Corps (particularly the time in Vietnam) and in private law practice brought me closer to what a friend 25 years ago described as "the human condition". Marilyn and I enjoy being together, and I feel very satisfied with our relationship. I really couldn't ask for more from life's experience, except maybe that Winstead's would had added onion rings to its menu before I graduated from Southwest. Worst memories: (1) language lab since I never knew if Miss McLeod was listening; (2) a hangover I had New Year's Day January, 1962. Best memories: (1) Christmas assemblies; (2) our football games in the fall when it was not raining; (3) Mr. Stark's biology classes ( I didn't realize until years later how good he was at teaching; (4) the Plaza lights.
