conservationist Married 4 1 2 Learning "Take-Aways"
'66 graduated: from Mizzou, Beta Theta Pi and ROTC in that order;
Worked as a reporter for the KC STAR: the value of living on minimal wage but doing what you love.
'67 "Advisor" officer in Vietnam: a true oxymoron.

'70 finished grad school and Libba and I went to Europe: the blessings of wandering aimlessly with the important person in your life.
'71 joined staff of Governor Jimmy Carter in charge of Natural Resources and Transportation policy:learning how to keep up with one demanding boss.

'75 elected executive director of Appalachian Trail Conference, where I learned among other things that charity boards are not charitable.
'77 joined President Carter's staff as deputy director of US Dept of Interior (HCRS), one of my life's great experiences.
'77 and '79 adopted our two children
'80 elected president of National Parks and Conservation Association and later founded a spin-off, the National Park Trust.
1989 married Susan Ford, who applied for a position at NPCA and since I could not afford her salary, I asked her to marry me: the value of owning a Black Lab if all else fails with an incredible woman.
'91 and '93 Susan and I had two sons
2007 retired to our farm in the Shenandoah Valley and had my first heart attack, and learned to value of having health care insurance and a wonderful wife.
2012 moving to a lovely historic area in Hagerstown, MD
Best: the incredible classmates
Worse: learning that admission to the military academies was politically based.
Worster: getting in trouble with my "good" buddies, Ted Hodgson and Pete Claggett.
Worstest: All the beautiful SWHS women I never dated.

Now
Retired Divorced 1 I worked for Amoco Oil for 34 years in various positions, both in the office and 'in the field'. I am now retired and living on my 'ranch'. I am trail riding my horses all over the country and enjoying my life to full advantage. Memories of those days are kind of a blur. I remember some great teachers, such as Miss Beck for art class. No really bad memories....just the usual teenage angst.
