After graduating from Northwestern in 1966, I stayed in Chicago and taught second grade in a suburban school. I subsequently met and married Paul, raised three children and along the way became a "professional" volunteer.
About fifteen years ago I started my own company -Transitions Unlimited - which organizes all the details when someone is moving, closing up a home and/or disposing of possessions. It's continually fascinating to see what people surround themselves with. (A note to the wise: sort through, pare down and otherwise get rid of the "extra stuff" around you. Your children will thank you.) In addition to creating my company, in order to keep my mind from atrophying, I started working for my husband in his law practice three days a week.
The two little joys in our lives are our grandchildren who, unfortunately for us, live in Charleston, SC. Needless to say, either we or they are often on airplanes.
Best memories: Senior Play, Winstead's, Saturday afternoons on the Plaza, being both intimidated and challenged by Sarah Helen Anderson, Esther Schroer and Julia Guyer (who remembers "Good Queen Bess in her Tudor dress"?). All in all it was a wonderful time to be growing up.
Worst memories: Have faded from my mind - I'm sure there were none.

I worked for Continental Grain, the second largest grain company in the world, for 22 years. The majority of those years were in the transportation department managing our large fleet of covered hoppers, getting freight rates for the merchandisers and expediting shipments. Upon the sale of Continental Grain`s grain division, I went to work for a smaller grain company for 3 years. I retired Sept. 27, 2002. Since then, I have done volunteer work and served as officers and the Presidency of Brandeis (University)National Committee; and for Congregation Beth Shalom`s Sisterhood. Currently, I am completing my two year term as President. In addition, I volunteer at Congregation Beth Shalom in the gift shop, do programming planning, correspondence and the financials for our over 60 year old group, Steppin` Out. Eight times a year I go with Congregation Beth Shalom to the St. Mary`s Soup Kitchen. In my spare time, I enjoy playing Mah Jongg (the real hnads-on game) with friends. Frequently, I run into many of our former classmates--Davida (Singer) Pessen, Marshall Gale, Ron Goldsmith, Cheryl (Brodkin) Silverman and many others.

I graduated from Northwestern U. in 1966 with a B. S. in Bus. Admin., and from Yale Law School in 1969 with a J. D. I practiced civil trial law in Denver from 1969-75, the last 4 years as a member of Pendleton, Sabian, Guthery & Lewis. In 1975, having burned out on big city trial work, I decided to try teaching. I took a position at the University of Idaho College of Law, from which I retired in 2007. I now live, with my wife Dauna, in the summer and fall at our home in Moscow, Idaho, and in the winter at our home in Casa Grande, Arizona.
Best: I don't remember. After all, I'm 67 years old.
Worst: See above. 2012-08-06 20:09:13 |
