After Southwest, I headed for Baker University with some other SW graduates in tow. Suzie Rowland, Jane sleeper, Carole Ward and I had a great time and got good educations.
I taught history, English, creative writing and contemporary affairs at Meadowbrook Junior High in Shawnee Mission., from 1966 to 1976. These years were an opportunity to hone my skills as an educator, mediator, and counselor. I would find these useful as a parent. I married Roy Beaty in 1975. He had a daughter, Stephanie, who was 6 at the time. Laura, our youngest daughter, was born in 1976. I stayed home with her and started graduate school at night. At age 4, she watched me graduate from SMU (extension). Roy and I bought a bookstore on 63rd St. in Brookside in 1980. All four of us worked there at various times, until the girls grew up and married. It was a great way to make a living, but by 1995 it turned out to be a bit like selling buggy whips. We survived the big box stores, but Amazon drove a knife in our heart. I went to work at the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Miller Nichols Library. My first job was as a library clerk, then I moved to the Office of Advancement, working with the UMKC Friends of the Library (my first formal effort at volunteer management), then became director of prospect research and campaign management, then to my current job as executive writer for the Chancellor’s office. Those newsletters I wrote and published for the libraries served me well. All our immediate family live here, so we spend time with them. I'm lucky to have a great husband and children and the best job in the world - that of Neena. Best memories - Mel Bishop and the Concert Choir - we would have walked over hot coals for that man. worst memories - our cruelty to the french teacher, Madame McLeod. She did not deserve us. 2012-08-06 22:38:28 |

I went to college at Baker U and got a Master's at UMKC. I taught for 5 years and then had a family. I did all the kid stuff, Cub Scouts, PTA, Jr. Golf, etc. I did substitute teaching for a number of years, as well as helping my husband with his business. ?We are now retired or trying to be. We like to travel and play golf and babysit!
So many good friends is a good memory. Worst: I was scared to death of the Latin teacher, whose name I forgot. She was old enough to have worn a toga!

Graduated KU 1966,centennial class, social worker, very part time lay preacher, wife, mom, something of a political junkie, (family tradition)
Lots of bests--art classes, Miss Beck, lots of great friends, no list of names as I will forget someone, getting elected to Student Council, first and, sorry to say, last time I was ever elected to anything. Worst: that hideous swimming pool (!)
