Retired librarian Widowed 3 1 1 I attended SMU in Dallas, Texas and graduated from the Universsity of Missouri (Columbia) in 1966. I spent 1966-7 working for the American Red Cross in the Republic of Korea--possibly the best year in my life-- as it afforded me the opportunity to travel throughout Asia and come to terms with adulthood. I married Bob Jakes, an army officer, in 1967 and spent the next twenty years traveling from assignment to assignment, the most memorable being the three years in northern Italy. My husband's last assignment was at the Pentagon and I have remained in Virginia for the last 30+ years. In 1989 I returned to school to get a Masters of Library Science degree and became an elementary school librarian, particularly enjoying spinning stories to wide-eyed children and encouraging curiosity. During that time I served on the American Museum of Frontier Culture board and the state reading program board. After retiring in 2000 I continued volunteering at the National Archives and after its opening in 2006, the National Museum of the American Indian. I also worked for several years on the area Red Cross Disaster Relief team. I continue to enjoy reading a good book, being with friends and family, and being on the open road or a wooded path. My best teacher memories are of Sarah Helen Anderson (Latin) although we were all scared to death of her, and concert choir even if Mr. Bishop had left. My best individual memories are of the friendships made then that endure to this day. 2012-07-10 07:42:15
