No life-long career, just a series of jobs and experiences. BA and MA in European history. Teaching at small mid-west college (I was the European History Department.) Drafted in 1969. Promised by Army avoidance of Vietnam if signed for 3 years, which I did. Sent to Vietnam (clerical job at a major HQ), followed by college-level teaching at Ft Knox.
Moved to Lawrence to work on PhD at KU in medieval European history. Dropped out after TA's and GI Bill ran out. Family farm management. Stock, bond, options, and commodity futures speculator. Stockbroker with Kidder, Peabody. House-husband. Small business half-owner (which failed). Finally, business manager for small Lawrence aerospace company for last 22 years. Still there half-time. Back in stocks after the crash of 2008, running my own portfolio. And golf (a recent interest).
The Literary Societies were a fairly unique SW institution. At the 35th annual Lit Society Contest Excelsior prevailed with formidable winners Rollins, Jacobson, Litwack, MacLennan, Wilson, ending the multi-year domination of the juggernaut that was Zend-Avesta.
Ronnie was, of course, our valedictorian as well as winner of "Driver of the Year" contest.
And who can forget the Dailey twins -- Adler socks models, city Doublemint Twins contest winners.
